"Self improvement" is too general anyway.

WHAT are you supposed to self improve? Gym and career is shit everybody else is doing anyway and people whose lives revolve around those two things tend to be boring as shit. If you spend every night at the gym moving stuff up and down you are most likely not that interesting to talk to (with exceptions). There are tradeoffs to "improving" anything. A person who spends every night after work reading all sorts of things is probably very interesting to talk to but might be out of shape so they will never get the chance to show it to anyone.
