This war reminds me strongly of WW1, with most armies, particularly the British Army, completely unprepared for the realities of modern warfare. The British Army of 1914 was primarily a colonial army, designed to put down rebellions in the global south. It was neither trained nor experienced in fighting professional armies with machine guns and heavy artillery.
