Just like Tokyo Ghoul. I remember the days when anime used to get so much air time we would be stuck with shitty filler. Now it seems slots are harder to come by. Speaking of Tokyo Ghoul though, does anyone know why the anime is so unfocused and hasty? Feels like they are shoving too much into too few episodes. Why didn't they just start from S1 with 26 episode seasons? Someone recommended the manga is better so I've gotten the first few volumes, but now I'm seeing the discrepancies first hand.

Tokyo Ghoul is not a kids anime. Only shonens like Naruto ever got long seasons like that.
Just look at Hunter x Hunter for a recent example.
If you like Shonen Jump shit then you'll get plenty of fillers to sit through.

HxH doesn't have a lot of content since it goes on hiatus so much so that makes sense. Now that you mention it though, most Seinen I have ever watched rarely goes through to completion. I guess I never really paid attention or just assumed the manga was short, but most just stop early even if the manga is still going on. Tokyo Ghouls is really good though so I've been actually trying to read the manga and bypassing the anime. Guess Shonen stuff and comedy stuff are popular enough to go to completion. Takes Jojo forever to get a season and that's seinen now too

12 (24 if you're lucky) is the norm for non Shonen Jump animes.
This is because producing anime is extremely expensive in Japan because it's not very popular. Other than the kids stuff most of it is broadcast really late at night for the hardcore guys who watch it after coming home from long hours at work.
Also they charge like $80 per 2 episodes. It's a few thousand people buying it and this funds the show.
Anime in Japan is really just a commercial for the manga, not really it's own thing unless its a standalone anime that is not an adaptation.
Also since the Japanese economy crashed after the 80s anime production has become much costlier.
Often outsourced to Koreans and even Filipinos (watch the credits of any anime and you'll notice this).
The global economic collapse really fucked up Japan (the whole but unfortunately Japan as well).

I like AoT but it doesn't really bother me that it's delayed, I don't care about it that much. I will always like it though since AoT is kinda the first anime I've ever seen if you don't count Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh.
