The irony in this is that newer studies actually vindicate racial categories of the past, they don’t debunk them. Anthropologists and population geneticists split mankind up into a number of genetic macro-populations, all of which approximate the racial categories of old:
• West Eurasian —> “Caucasoid”
• East Eurasian —> “Mongoloid”
• Australo-Melanesian —> “Australoid”
• Sub-Saharan African —> “Negroid”
I guess the only difference is that the SSA cluster is extremely broad due to the high level of genetic diversity in Africa and includes the Khoisan, who previously were discounted as part of the black race. But still, race is mostly vindicated.
The argument that “human genetic variation exists along a gradient therefore race ain’t real n shiet” is also stupid because people already knew genetic variation was a gradient even when the concept of race was mainstream. Hence Italians and Eastern Europeans at one point being considered “lesser whites” in America due to the belief that they were mixed with North Africans and East Asians respectively. So to act as if human genetic variation falling along a gradient is some revolutionary new knowledge that totally debunks race is retarded

And of course, as DarkStar used to always point out in those debates with him, those beliefs and attitudes, however common they may have been, never became any sort of official policy in the US and "white ethnics" were always assimilated after a generation or two, always were considered ultimately white, and never were subject to the kind of restrictions nonwhites may have had placed upon them.
