Discussion My guitar playing

Mogs the fuck out of my guitar playing. You should upload videos (hiding your face/shot from the neck down, of course), as watching guitar playing is enjoyable IMO. Also, based for not using a backing track, I like hearing pure guitar.

My playing suffers when recording that's why I don't do it very often.

Great, and mogs me for being able to play an instrument.

Only one I've ever actually played was the drums

Impressive very nice

Self taught?
When I first started learning, I learnt the fundamentals from somebody for 3-4 months. then did self learning. Do you like it? Do you also play yourself?

It sounds amazing, I mostly play metal (death, black, deathcore). I first learned on acoustic but I’ve mainly been electric since buying my first.

This is actually cool as fuck. What's the first songs name?

Much better than me

I should begin to record my bass trainings - I play too long to not have hours of recordings

Boom boom bummerino!

Sounds great. You have some real chops man. Can you school me on flamenco? I know pretty much nothing about it.

Watching people play tech death makes me feel suicidal. I've seen plenty of this guy's videos.
Why are you so insecure about your guitar-playing skills nigga?

I'm not really insecure, more mad at the fact I have abysmal genetics for the instrument. I gave it up somewhat recently despite having played since childhood, but I had always progressed extremely slowly and I knew could never reach a level of ability I am happy with.

I see, I guess it's fair to give it up if you couldn't get what you wanted from it. I'm a guitar player but I guess I had it easier because I never aspired to play things as difficult as that Necrophagist track. What I wanted to do was to be able to play stuff at the difficulty level of Black Sabbath's 8 first albums at the most, more or less. I of course can't play that stuff as well as Tony Iommi, but I still managed to get in the ballpark of it so I'm decently happy with my proficiency personally.

I think I gave the wrong impression with my earlier comment. I also never aspired to play anything extremely technical, it just hurts seeing talented people play as it illustrates how severely I lack ability and demonstrates levels of control and mastery I could never even hope to have over the instrument. I would have been satisfied with being far worse than the guy in the video above.

That's understandable. My perspective on people like that is that even though they might have amazing and enviable talent, what they choose to do with it is usually not my cup of tea. Are there any songs/tunes in particular you've wanted to learn but had difficulty with? Or did you have any aspirations to create your own music as well? If you've never tried making your own music you should consider giving it a shot. It's freeing, because unless someone makes a cover of something you made you will be the best and the worst player at your own track simultaneously. Even when you're doing a cover you shouldn't judge yourself too harshly if you don't come too close to the original either, you can find a way to appreciate your own "version" of a song you love (whether it was intended to sound different or not).

Innumerable. I was a very poor player.

Or did you have any aspirations to create your own music as well?
I never had any aspirations to create anything. I have never been a creative person.

Just thought I would throw that question out in case I could give you some tips on a song. I understand if you're completely done with it though, I don't mean to stress you on it.

Even though it is fun to learn and study other people's music, in my opinion playing an instrument is best when you are doing your own thing. It doesn't even have to be making a proper song or tune, just making a racket can be plenty of fun on its own. This video summarises my perspective on music well:

I tried guitar and keyboard (self taught) but couldn't get into it, I'm not really a musical person.
I don't consider myself talented and a 'musical' person either. Just a lonely guy whose only coping strategy was to play guitar. That's it. And I am largely self-taught too.

Wow, we have a flamencocel here! Do you listen to flamenco often? How did you first discover it?
Can you school me on flamenco? I know pretty much nothing about it.
It's a folk music from Spain. Has song structures called 'palos'. Each palo follows its own rhythmic structure. The first song I played for example is called Fandangos De Huleva (comes from the Huelva municipality in Spain), the 2nd one I played was Bulerias. Bulerias is much faster and harder, as it follows a 12 beat rhythmic loop.

Nah what I meant that I was not familiar with the genre (even listening to it), but your playing here was really good so I would like to know some songs/tunes/artists to check out.

Very cool, thank you for the insight. I love music where there is an emphasis on the rhythm.

Would you want to perform for a crowd? Or is that too scary?

Not quite. I'm not scared to play but I don't like the attention. Playing for yourself is always very much better

One last bump before I go to sleep
