In any event...in the West we are currently largely individualistic societies where a person is not necessarily considered dominant, or powerful with the right of control over others, simply based on their position in the hierarchy. At least, theoretically. Part of the ingrained thinking in Asians that still persists, is that there exists a sort of unspoken "superiority" if one is higher up in the food chain, whereby being higher up allows one to more freely flaunt over those who are considered lesser.

Part of this is very difficult to define unless one is intimately familiar with Asian societies from within, but...we in the (somewhat) individualistic West have an understood 'right' to resist someone who thinks they are superior, from forcing their will on us, just by virtue of their place in the social hierarchy. Whereas in many Asian societies, a lot of that goes out the door. The 'Boss' is almost like a 'god,' for instance. In many cases, he cannot be openly questioned, and he cannot be made to be seen in lesser light, or to lose 'face.' Facts are secondary to this end.

Anywho...it's a hassle to try and remember everything and detail out an essay...but the main feature here is the difference between an individualistic society, and a collectivist society. The former values freedom of the individual, the latter values the dominance of hierarchy and authority.

People always show their true nature when they're pressured/ threatened to the point where they are too stressed to put on a face.
