Out of everyone in my family, my cat seems to favor me the most. She sleeps beside me and occasionally even on top of me, she constantly demands my attention, etc.
The other day, she started unexpectedly choking on her food—which she had never done at any other point in her life. She was clearly struggling to breathe and could not expell nor fully swallow the granule in her throat.
While my mother frantically tried to perform a Heimlich Maneuver on the cat, I felt as if my soul had left my body. All I could do is scream "SHE IS GOING TO DIE!" over and over. (in my delirious state, I even struck the living room wall). Only a full hour after the obstruction somehow dissolved and I knew that she was completely safe did I finally manage to calm myself down.
While certain individuals often label us as monsters who incapable of any love or empathy, the simple truth is that they have simply not earned either of those concepts from us. If I saw a foid being held down and violently raped in some dark alley, I would be unable to muster even the slightest shred of concern for her wellbeing. My cat, however? I would protect her with my life, if need be.
