My son is 8 and is on Roblox. After what happened on 9/10, I learned about “groypers”. Well I had no idea. My son plays a game called “mewing simulator” where you improve one’s jawline.

Mewing is a way to supposedly reshape your jawline and change your facial structure (the methods are absolutely unproven). This practice is part of a larger community of mainly young men and boys who are "Looksmaxxing", which is basically what it sounds like - doing a bunch of crap to try to look more attractive, more masculine, etc. It's a term coined by incels and is closely linked with alpha male ideologies and things like "mogging" (Gen Z slang for being physically and socially superior and the belief that those things make you superior to others in general).

So basically, this is one of the gateways for young boys getting into groyper and similar spaces.

Mewing is not the problem. Roblox is the problem. Access to The Internet is the problem. Everything is designed to capture your kid and influence them, ESPECIALLY young boys/men. GET YOUR KID OFF THE INTERNET/YOUTUBE/ROBLOX. It solved 90% of my kids' attitude problems, too.

You talk to your son about the problem by saying that you learned that there are tricky people who are spending a lot of time trying to get access to kids for really weird reasons ("why are they spending so much time trying to get ahold of kids they don't know? That's weird, right, buddy? What are they up to?") to try to shape how they think, and they spend a lot of time trying to influence young minds because they can earn a lot of money by turning kids into products/buying engines. Focus on how people are trying to trick kids. Kids don't like being tricked.

I looked into mewing three months ago because I, a middle aged woman, wanted to improve the tone of my neck and jawline as I have sagged and my (always weak) chin is disappearing into my neck. The loudest part of a community are usually the weirdos, because the majority of people are looking at the info and quietly applying it to their own life. The common statistics for the Internet is that for every 1 person who comments or posts there are 9 who lurk.
