I remember as a kid I used to consider rapists, murderers, and kidnappers to be on similar levels. That was because I thought most rapes were like how Spiderman portrayed it. Mary Jane was chased into an allyway and surrounded by 5 dudes who planned to strip her and repeatedly violate her.

According to statistics, most rapists don't even know they're rapists when they commit the act, meaning most of the time it's because of blurred consent, alcohol is involved, or "pressuring", not actual forceful penetration.

From what I've noticed reading studies on rape and sexual coercion in general, the usage of physical force during it is so rare, in some studies it's not even clear which gender uses it more. Think about how ridiculous that is, considering that everyone can picture a man using force to rape a woman, but few people can imagine the opposite, and yet it's sometimes found to be so rare it's not even clear which of the two scenarios happens more often.

Also, 400 cases of rape analyzed, not a single "real rape" found:

The researchers behind this have looked at roughly 400 rape cases reported to the UK police forces, and tried to find how many of them with the stereotype of "real rape," as in, what most people immediately think of when they hear the word "rape". A complete stranger whom a woman had never seen before attacking her during the night in an isolated area, using a weapon to force her into sex and leaving her with serious injuries.

The result? They didn't find a single one.

Even in the cases of rape by strangers, those are usually done by charismatic guys the women have been spending time with already
