first proper high effort post.
i have been spending the last few days going over several (and i have read over a hundred, 167 to be precise) posts of women claiming to have been raped on reddit across multiple subreddits. i have scoured several subreddits including twoxchromosomes, askwomen and confessions. i collected a total of 360 posts from the last five years, and randomly selected 180 from it for my investigations. i had to exclude 13 posts owing to vague / minimal details, with little to no updates from OP when questioned.
of the 167 stories i went through, an alarming 101 of these women never actually went on to prosecute or marginalize the perpetrator. almost all of the stories received feedback from redditors that completely vilified the guy, calling for a police complaint, or calling for exposing. over a half of the posts had comments asking to doxx the perpetrator. OPs of 101 posts seemed to defend the rapist, consider their words not being taken seriously, find the idea of telling a cop what happened anxiety inducing they tend to not heed to most of the advice thrown at them.
OPs of 56 posts from my randomized subsample returned to update having taken action against the rapist. 51 took legal action, while 5 resolved to social action . of the 5, one merely made social media posts about the rapist and exposing him on her private instagram, sharing her story, while the other four proceeded things within their university.
Now for the more interesting statistics:
All of the 51 posts describing of having taken legal action, i.e., making a formal police complaint, and trying to prosecute the rapist, involved a situation where the foid had only met the rapist shortly before the incident. example, met at a nightclub that she went home with. only 4 of the 101 posts where the women never took action on the rapists were such situations. In 97 of the posts where the woman did not take action on the rapist, it was usually a friend of hers, or at the least an acquaintance.
Despite strong demands from reddit to cut off the rapist, 14 returned to reiterate they remained friends with the rapist, and an additional 10 defended the character of the rapist to other redditors even though they have decided not to remain friends.
73 of the remaining posts remained ambivalent to the rapist. 51 OPs reported back to have cut all contact with the rapist and the friends of rapists. 16 OPs reported to see the rapist in social contexts and on friendly terms with him, as in they are fine to see him in group settings, but will not ever communicate with him 1:1. 6 OPs reported to still being friends with people that are friends with the rapist, but will not go to meet ups where he would be present.
it's clear which of these rapists where chads, htns, ltns and sub5s. chads remain friends with their "victims", htns can see their "victims" in social contexts, ltns will never see their "victims" and their social life is slightly ruined because of their actions, sub5s get police complaints and direct social repercussions.
