Modern Games vs Old Games | Lost Technology Edition

When you start noticing that videogammes go to shit, that's when we've hit the peak and now we're in a downward spiral.

I miss being a kid and fantasizing about how videogames will look and be like in the future. I have zero hopes for the future of this industry atp ngl

its this fucking bad bcuz, as always, ITS THE JOOS, STUPID
when gaming stopped being nerdy and unpopular, i.e most common male hobby, they understood the importance of subverting this avenue of media. Now theres no care about quality, very few passion projects,and a whole lot of selling out and checking boxes
 
All these comparisons only ever seem to compare 2006-2010 shooters. You'd see a downgrade if you compared 2000-2005 games as well.

Zoomers/genA are too young to even remember 90s and 00s games. And most of them would go into panic mode if they wouldn't be seeing modern streamlined UI.

I fully expected to physics and ai to be ultra advanced while now that got completely neglected and relegated to no physics what so ever and most basic ai you could possibly have (at least ai can still be very good in rts games)
 
Microtransactions it's literally fortnite was the catalyst you can go loop de loop and it links back to Fortnite because every game is filled with that shit
 
This is pathetic and genuinely makes me sad.

I remember when I was growing up in the 2000s, that I thought games would just get better and better. It seemed like it was only up from there. I remember in ~2010, I was talking on a forum fantasizing about how when Mafia III would release in the mid-2010s, (I loved the Mafia games) that it would have a destructible environment like Bad Company 2, have extremely good AI and bullet damage similar to FEAR, soft body damage physics on vehicles (I remember this was a term BARELY used at the time, IIRC one of the only games that had it was Rigs of Rods), insane dynamic water physics, breakable glass like in Mafia II (it was pretty damn good in that game too. The PhysX games were awesome), HL2-like object physics, dynamic gore similar to Soldier of Fortune, and a shit ton of enterable buildings with different interiors.

Oh how wrong I was, that was a TOTAL pipe dream, but it all seemed realistic at the time tbh.

Corporate greed, wokeness, and in my opinion, the changing demographic of gamers (not the troons and the women that corporations try to pander to, but the Zoomer/Gen Alpha types who rack up heavy bills on their mom's credit cards paying for dumb bullshit in CoD, Fortnite, and others) ruined gaming. Everything sucks now and I have to go back to the games that I looked up to as a kid. It shouldn't be this way but unfortunately it is.

That was my imagination after playing GTA IV i was fully convinced we would get new game with much bigger scale (like gta sa) but in FHD and also have at least 3 huge cities with multiple enterable buildings, oh boy how disappointed i was with gta 5, while we actually got many enterable interiors entire world was just inferior to what we have got in GTA SA or even 4.

Other issue are as you just said physics that are completely neglected i remember Red Faction 1 and then guerilla, i remember Bad Company 2, Nvidia demos and HL2/Gmod and since then they only keep neglecting it. Ai of npcs got completely downgraded and dumbed down. Now it's only graphics and spamming MTX.

Agreed.

I can't think of a SINGLE person who asked for this retarded raytracing and AI bullshit to be implemented instead of the things that we stated, with all of the details that made old games amazing being sacrificed for that bullshit as well.
 
The creation of games should be entrusted to common gamer/incel/chud, no longer can anyone else be trusted.

impossible because they made GTA 5 for PS3/Xbox 360 hardware originally and it was limited, one of the reasons why they made so many empty mountains space on the map.

there were still bad games, medicore ones no one remebers them thats why people think old games are so good

There were way more games released each month that we have now. So no shit we had many mediocre games but amazing games were getting launched weekly. Even mid game has more gameplay and uniqueness than modern trash games that just copy each other.
