Why has most countries shut down many mental hospitals, back in the 1950,s UK there were over 150000 people in long term care and now there are only 27000, there are far more people with mental illnesses than ever but yet they complain more that there are not enough prisons to house petty criminals for little harmless crimes, why can't they put me in one

Because back in the day being gay, being a nagging woman and similar things were things you got locked up for. Now it's mostly suicidal and schizophrenic people

My great uncle had spent a third of his life in one, simply because he could not look after himself when his mother had died, he was also a complete virgin who never worked a day in his life and had no friends as he died aged 75, this is what is going to happen to me, the future is bleak

You should be able to voluntarily admit yourself to one I’ve been to the psych ward twice both times were involuntary. But a lot of the people that I talked to in there voluntarily admitted themselves for various different things. Some were suicidel some went in there to detox you can just go down to the emergency room and tell them your feeling suicidal that should get you admitted. Or you could talk to a psychiatrist and tell them you want to voluntarily admit yourself. Either way should work.
