First of all, female sexual orientation probably is not the same as it is for men. I.E. being heterosexual for a woman is different from being heterosexual for a man.
But it seems to exist in women because men prefer it because it benefits them in a few ways. One is that it would have reduced the risk of cuckoldry. If a woman has sex with another man outside of her relationship, she may get pregnant and her primary partner can end up raising a child that's not his. If she has sex with a woman, there is no risk of cuckoldry as she cannot get pregnant. Other studies have shown that men would tend to be more forgiving if they found out that their wife/girlfriend had an affair with a woman rather than an affair with a man (on the flip side, women would also tend to be more forgiving if their husband/boyfriend cheated with a woman than if he did with a man).
In polygomous relationships, female bisexuality also reduced the risk of cuckoldry. A man would have several women to satisfy and may not be able to keep up, so if these women could get their sexual needs met by one another, it would reduce the odds of them finding a man (who could possibly impregate them) to satisfy them. Also in polygomous relationships, it reduced strife and friction among co-wives and would help them get along better. This made it more likely that they would be willing to share resources with one another and help look after one anothers offspring which increased the odds of survival for all of them.
Also, it helped men gain access to sexual partners he may not have otherwise gained access to and with minimal effort on his part. Say you have a normie tier guy who lucked out and gets a Stacy girlfriend who is bisexual. She may bring other Stacies around that normie guy now has an opportunity to have sex with because of his girlfriend that he otherwise may not have had.
