I'm not sure if it's still the case but when I started lifting about 8-9 years ago, the go-to routine was starting strength. Part of this routine is often drinking a gallon of milk, which contains about 2500 calories. Unless you are Auschwitz tier, that is INSANELY fucking stupid. The average guy with a a bit of love handles should just go to the gym a little bit, increase his protein intake but his main focus should be LOSING weight, unless you want to end up looking like Jason Blaha.

I truly believe that the average person has absolute garbage genetics for building muscle. Bulking is a meme tbh, most people are just going to get fat.

There is no 'bulking' for natural bodybuilders

Bulking and cutting were terms popularized by professional bodybuilders in the golden era because they actually had the ability to gain rapid amounts of muscle (Bulking) and lose huge amounts of fat (cutting) in a short span of time (because of anabolic steroids)

A natural can at best expect to gain 2-3 lbs of lean muscle every month, and that number rapidly decreases after every year of lifting
 
GOMAD isn't what's wrong with Starting Strength, there are /fit/izens who've actually LOST weight on 2500 calories. Because they didn't realize they were also supposed to eat food in addition to that gallon of milk a day.

Starting Strength fails because it's too lower body heavy. You get "T-Rex mode" from Starting Strength.

It's really quite simple how much muscle you can add natty...

Average genetics

Small frame: 25-30lbs
Medium frame: 30-35lbs
Large frame: 35-45lbs

70% of your muscle will be added in the first 18 months.

Even with great genetics 50lbs+ is practically impossible without gear. Arnold Schwarzenegger only added 55lbs to his frame (peak 245lbs bodyweight at 6ft1). At his peak weight at 23 he'd already been training 9 years. He was on gear of course.

Jean Claude Van damme only added 37 pounds and maxed out 187lbs 5'9.

Stallone was 194lbs peak at 5'9.

Unless you're emaciated and need to bulk ASAP or a fatass that needs to cut leanbulking on a 250-300 calorie surplus for most of the time as a natural is the way to go.
Heavy bulking doesn't work as a natty because you aren't firing up your androgens with roids to create such a caloric demand for anabolism you just end up getting fat.
Heaby/dirty bulking as a natty is a retard meme.

lol why do you ask

I do full body except i tend to not train legs much these days so my full body work out are often just upper body focused

I focus on dips, chins, rows, ohp. I sometimes do assistance exercises like pullover or upright rows (with dumbbells and no higher than the nipple line otherwise it's dangerous). I do rear delt work every session. I do arms pretty much every session after compounds these days.

I do forearms at home once per week usually

Tbh if you want good reads you should check: Science and Practice of Strength Training, Supertraining and lastly maybe some of the books of Frederic Delavier

That being said i think that so long as you're eating right, sleeping right, hitting the compounds and not missing out on some key isolation everything else almost doesn't matter at all. It's all memes and fine tuning beyond that.

Even the typically "hot" muscular look which takes a few months of lifting to get to seems to be dying out. Look at TikTok and shit, the guys there aren't shredded, not even close. They're just tall and lean.

The problem with starting strength is that it is based on non-aesthetic workouts. Women generally don't care how strong your thighs And back are. That's all this crap works out

I assume you miss typed. A natural can’t gain 2-3 lbs of muscle a month. Fat sure but not muscle. 2-3 a year would be good for a natural. Especially one staring out. Lol @ training without steroids.
