I haven't played the game but I looked at the gameplay, music, dialogue and it looks rather mediocre and childish. (I'll elaborate later)
The first major problem I noticed is that the music is horrible. Which is a major disappointment because the Mario and Luigi games usually have amazing soundtracks. Yoko Shimomura who did the music of the last five games was not involved at all!

It's not memorable at all. It's not catchy. There's no bits in it that take you back or surprise you. It's almost Dragon Quest 11 levels of mediocre and annoying.
It's a shame Yoko Shimomura will seemingly no longer be involved in Nintendo. The Mario series as a whole has become so disappointingly bland in terms of music.
The second problem I see with this game is the dialogue and story. I was never a huge Mario and Luigi fan (although I have played all the games) but there was a certain uniqueness to the way its dialogue and story were handled. The characters were more mean spirited than in the mainline Mario games. Unlike Paper Mario there was very rarely any serious moments outside of the boss fights. From what I've seen of brothership this soul is completely gone. (Not surprising since the original writers of Mario and Luigi aren't involved at all) The humor is far more safe and inoffensive. The mean spiritedness is absent. While the stories of previous Mario and Luigi games were bizarre and didn't really have an overarching point outside of gags; Mario and Luigi Brothership is more stereotypical and has a theme. This theme is "muh friendship." At the end of the game they try to have serious moments where this is discussed and it's so fucking cringe.
I can't imagine how any grown man could play this game without recoiling. Yes, you could say all Mario games were targeted at children. (Although Shigeru Miyamoto disagrees) However past Mario games were never this fucking toddler tier.
Lastly there's the gameplay. It looks as if they've locked most bro moves far into the game meaning you're going to play almost ten hours executing the same attacks over and over. I can't imagine how boring that'd get.
Overall it looks as if brothership is another mediocre and disappointing Nintendo release. I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of members here whonhave actually played it
