Man dies suffocated by obese wife after fall from bed
A 59-year-old man died after being suffocated by his partner's body in the early hours of Monday morning in the Campanhã region of Porto. Alerted by the woman's screams for help, neighbors tried to help the victim by forcing open the door, but he was declared dead at the scene.
It all happened in the couple's bedroom: the woman was lying in bed and decided to go to her husband, who was lying on the floor, only to lose her balance and fall on top of him. The woman weighs over 100 kilos, according to JN, which left her unable to get up and immobilized between the bedroom wall and the bed.
By the time neighbors managed to lift the woman off her partner, the victim had already lost consciousness. Porto Alegre Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene, and an emergency and resuscitation vehicle was also dispatched, but the maneuvers were unsuccessful.
It took five men to lift the woman.
Police was called and, after carrying out the necessary investigations, the authorities consider that the victim suffered from accidental asphyxiation.
