Az from HeelvsBabyface recently reviewed Alan Wake II. After realizing that one of the main protagonist, Saga Anderson, had been race-swapped from a white Scandinavian woman seen in the Alan Wake II: The Return trailer, he discovered that progressive company Sweet Baby Inc. was hired as a consultant by Remedy Entertainment.
Who is Sweet Baby Inc.? According to the About Section of their website, emphasis mine:
“Founded in 2018, Sweet Baby Inc. is a narrative development and consultation studio based in Montreal and working around the globe. Our mission is to tell better, more empathetic stories while diversifying and enriching the video games industry. We aim to make games more engaging, more fun, more meaningful, and more inclusive, for everyone.”
While this may sound like something you would read on the now defunct Feminist Frequency, Sweet Baby Inc. has already pushed their ideology to a similar extent.
As you can see from the image above, Sweet Baby Inc. was hired by Remedy Entertainment to consult as sensitivity readers for Alan Wake II.
The Cambridge dictionary definition of a sensitivity reader is: “someone who reads documents, books, etc. in order to check that they do not contain anything that might upset or offend people who read them, especially before they are published.”
Similar to the Ministry of Truth in the George Orwell classic dystopian novel 1984, sensitivity readers are expected to tell the audience what is acceptable.
Remedy Entertainment isn’t the only company hiring these consultants. Sweet Baby Inc.’s client list include some of the major gaming and videogame companies in their respective industries.
According to their website, Sweet Baby Inc. offers several consulting services such as writing, narrative design, game development and representation, which they state:
"We believe that representation is key to connecting players and audiences, and we offer a few ways to help your team and project gain the perspective needed to make it happen. We’re part of an inclusive and knowledgeable community of diverse consultants, able to cover a wide range of cultural and sensitivity topics. Our approach leads with the creation of joy in marginalized players, and seeks to be additive rather than strictly corrective.”
We do: Cultural Consultation, Sensitivity And Inclusivity Reading, Risk and Opportunities Assessment, and more.”
Az goes on to point out several immersion-breaking scenarios where far-left ideology can be found in Alan Wake II to push the message. He was quickly blocked by the CEO of Sweet Baby Inc, Kim Belair, on X after pointing out these faults.
Several recent videogames, such as Spider-Man 2, have raised eyebrows with their overt ideological content and it’s starting to make sense why this appears to be a growing trend in the industry. Many speculate that companies are hiring these consultants to raise their ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) rating, which is a communist-style corporate social credit score used to garner investments.
While Sweet Baby Inc. is probably not the largest, or last progressive consulting company that will be hired by videogame publishers, gamers deserve to know who their money supports. Given the massive success of Spider-Man 2, gamers can expect even more ideology in their videogames. Unless gamers realize these companies do no care about their memes after they’ve already bought the product and vote with their wallets, expect the videogame industry to join comic books as another victim of this pervasive ideology.
