Went to Macau for a day from 10am to 9:30pm. Boarding the jet ferry from HKG.

Overall, I think Macau is a soulless place just like many first world cities. A lot of it were dedicated around casinos (at least the buses were free) packed with luxurious stores and psuedo-roman style architecture

Typically for casino-mall(high end)-hotel, the insides were large - too large, it felt like a backroom and me and my family kept getting lost like in a IKEA store. We know these places are designed to make gamblers feel lost so they keep on grinding (the house always win). A place of sin, nothing more.

Tight streets and motorcycles dominate the place, which I sort of disliked. I guess it's quite similar to European places in this aspect.

I went to the St Paul ruins, the all famous place where it's considered you must go there or you haven't went here at all.

Overall I would say the place is decent. It feels like a sidegrade of my place HKG, a artificial, consumer based "culture" but with much chiller people which is nice. We had some issues with the bus payment and the driver was happy to help. The shop staff were nice and walked to deliver to us the food while we were focusing on our stuff.

Overall, for foreigners (even those as far as Singapore), if you have visited Macau or Hong Kong, you have visited the another basically. The goods (drinks, McDonald's, foodstuff) are the same but Macau is more pleasant due to less overcrowding (other than tourist areas)

The thing I learned the most is that....silence is bliss.

Did you see much of any Catholic or Portuguese architecture?

Yes, and I think they may be better preserved than HK in this area. But ironically Macau is much closer to China than HK.
