Brutal man. It's pretty common though, unfortunately. A lot of guys don't know how to tell the difference between real, positive interactions and people using them for their own purposes.
Reminds me of a classmate I had in highschool, he was turbo-manlet and acted like a clown to appease others. He didn't even care when they mocked him for it.

i dont even think its about not being able to tell the difference for this guy because the kind of bullying he was on the receiving end of was very blatant but he just so desperately wanted to have a friend group that he put up with it all
