I think the general lack of guarantees in life is the problem. At schoolcel ages, you had clearly defined goals and guarantees of success provided that you studied hard (ofc not counting all cases). We wanted to change the world and had the ambitions so

Fast forwarding to adulthood, there is a severe lack of goals/guarantees/purposes. Once you graduate, there are no goals, no collective purpose (on a societal level), no guarantees.

You got a degree? Jobs rejected after jobs.

You got that job now? No foids.

You go to a meetup place? Well, no forced friends (in school, people are forced to be with each other and had incentives to be nice), no guarantee anyone is gonna befriend you, no guarantee they aren't out of touch boomers.

Homeless? Oh, no boarding school provided by the government!

Hell, lots of social services are gone after you're 18+. Free dentistry, free healthcare, free schooling and so on.

You are average IQ (or way below average)? You won't succeed in STEM (the only marketable field in 2023 and onwards).
