"Being good at math is hot" only works in their head because they are picturing someone who is already attractive. Nobody is fantasizing about the stereotypical awkward geek with poor grooming and no presence. OP even admitted it: "Tbh one person has triggered this."
Passion or talent in anything only complements what is already there. A good-looking man who is skilled at something becomes more appealing. An unattractive man with the same skill is ignored or mocked. It is never about math alone, it is about who is doing it.
