However, the y-chromosome contains relatively little information so even though it's an unbroken chain, it doesn't really contain much uniqueness. It simply programs maleness, and various survivial functions like the immune system.
That's what I mean. When I first saw this, I went exactly for the same cope- y chromosome is passed. But after doing some reading- surprise, surprise, it's a dwarf chromosome that contains basically no unique hereditary characteristics. You and your ancestors from 400 years ago basically have nothing in common, aside from some marker leftovers from recombination. Your likeness is lost.
