Have they interbred with the other mixed mongrels since then? Or are they still genetically distinctThere's a historical reason for why Brazil has so many people of japanese descent and it has nothing to do with this.
There was a need for cheap labor in brazil after they abolished slavery and rural japan was very poor at the time and overpopulation was a big concern at the time (this was before their birth rate tanked dramatically so it was a legit concern) so a lot of rural japanese moved there for better opportunity. We're talking about the late 1800s and very early 1900s here. Japanese stopped moving there entirely like 70 years ago. Japanese rarely expatriate in general these days.
The "japanese" in brazil at this point are all 3rd generation or more. I also put "japanese" in quotes as I'd bet dollars to doughnuts a lot of that 2.7 million are "My great grandmother was japanese!" weebs.
