Every piece of media, entertainment and even art selects the most attractive people to be in them. This is of course logical and it can't be changed, that's what sells. Putting ugly people in those roles would be inefficient.
BUT there is a side-effect no one gives a shit about (since we as a species only care about profit and our own interests, not the government nor the industries give a shit).
The side-effect is the impact on our psyche. Constantly seeing attractive people in everything changes our expectations, our perspective on everything. We now tend to desire a woman like those that you see in every damn movie even in minor roles, in your favorite tv show, or your favorite singer. And even a person who can attract a woman irl will have to face a stark contrast, will have to settle for something that is so much less than what he is used to seeing every day on TV. Even if you're perfectly willing to settle, those desires will keep haunting you.
It's almost torturous. It's like having images of steak and burgers flashing before your eyes for hours every day, while you're forced to eat cockroaches.
And this issue goes so much deeper. Women too are bombarded with such images, of tall, muscular men with model-like faces. And their expectations and perceptions are affected too, making it even harder for men like us to compete.
