I'll give you two simple examples: videogames and music.

When you complain with a normie about it about the former they'll say something in the lines of "you just got older" "you're in a different stage of your life now" "thats just nostalgia knocking".

Now, if you complain about the latter, they'll get even more defensive, and say "ofc, you only listen to radio shit" "have you tried non mainstream music?" "You're just a bigot" "you're the type to hate on anything thats popular, arent you?"

There's ALWAYS an excuse with these people to not adress the elephant in the fucking room.

That is, that EVERYTHING, including SOCIETY ITSELF IS JUST GOING DOWN THE GUTTER.

There is two expressions in my country to refer to this kind of phenomena.

First one is "tapar o sol com a peneira" which translates to trying to block the sun light with something that wont work. Its not wanting to accept a given situation and sinking your head in the sand waiting for it to just go away.

Second one is "o pior cego é aquele que não quer ver" which means "the worst kind of blind man is the one who doesnt want to see", and that one is pretty self explanatory.

To some normies, it's not perceived that way. To perceive it in that way, you would first need some combination of self-awareness, a conception of your place in society and history or this time period, and observational capability.

Let me restate normies just drift in life. And for a long time, they could effortlessly: Boomers and Gen X. There aren't many humans who are capable of seeing the bigger picture, seeing through the idols of their mind and to the reality of things. And frankly, there isn't a reason to. You'll just end up searching for that tiny contingent that have that ability and you'll make yourself ideologically opposed to practically all others and maybe lonelier (if you're here, you're probably lonely.)

So normies can't care or be sure that society is going down the gutter or what that means or portends. Nor if they could care and be sure, would they. Boomers didn't care about climate change, Chads and women don't care about the well-being of greater society. Soys think everything is fine.

I have a question for you. Are you a believer in The Collapse? Do you think western civilization like Europe and North America will succumb to threats that are debated to exist at all?
