Yes. I would only consider not having a car if I lived and worked in the downtown part of a big city. Aside from that you need a car if you live anywhere else.

I've been driving my car for 3 years now only had one issue with it that I needed to take to a mechanic and it was the battery dying. Cost around 60$
Replaced my battery a few months back was about $120

Did you get them at a tyre place? I have saved ££££ by ordering my tyres online and having them delivered the last few years.
Then I put them in my car, take them to the local tyre place. They charge £10 fitting and balancing a tyre if I pay cash. To get the tracking adjusted is £25. So with the brand I use it was £44 a tyre. £10 fitting each. £25 to have the tracking checked and adjusted. In 2016 when I went to Europe for 8 weeks I had all 4 of my tyres changed because they were old and very worn out. I think it was £240 total.
Those same tyres that were £40-something online were nearly £80 each at a tyre place before fitting.
Also due to Corona chan one thing mechanics are complaining about is its very difficult to get some tyres at the moment and I was looking for some tyres for my sisters car the other day and they had doubled in price. I think I'll leave it for 6 months.
One thing with you American-cels is those ridiculous trucks with big ass mud tyres on even though you drive on tarmac to McDonalds and to work and thats it.

Wheel bearing? Depends on the design. The press fit ones in my Toyota need a press but a lot of cars have these bolt in hubs these days. Not all that difficult to change unless you are in the rust belt.

Fair play dude - working in -20 must be painful plus its rust country like England is. A few weeks ago I had to change the exhaust manifold, radiator, water pump and do a brake job on my car and it was rusty as fuck and cold and raining. It's hard work - but a garage would have charged me £700 to do it and I don't even have £5 to spare at the moment.
It's hard being a carcel.
