Technology transformed the world into this unnatural state. It was inevitable, true. Where there is intelligent life there is technological progress, it can't be stopped. It's almost a force of nature, intelligent species that conquer their natural environment and its problems eventually have their societies turn to shit.
There's just so many things wrong with this world you can't even count them. We wouldn't be in this mess if not for technology. Sure, life during the past sucked in many ways, and many would've died in their infancy, but we've just exchanged one set of problems for another. At least in the past human life was closer to what it was designed to be by nature and evolution, nowadays it's all a human-made hellhole.
