No shit it was.I could ride my bike without worrying about getting hit by a car (now I swear there is almost a car/ human) every fucker drives his car even to get bread.The price of bread was much smaller,about a half ,and this applies to everything you buy because inflation .You could actually survive just by having a job and many more.
