In the past childbirth was risky so women could die during childbirth ( I don't know how high was the percentage of it ). So it made sense for men to go to war because life was harsh for everyone.
Now giving childbirth for women is a much less risky because of development of medicine. But soyciety still sends men to war despite development of technology.
