The caliph is subordinate to God's orders as everyone else is. He doesn't have innate privileges towards other Muslims other than being eligible to the position of caliph. If he is unrighteous, regardless of his ancestry, he is to be deposed, and that is an order for Muslims. If the so-called leader transgresses the Shariah (the law of God) it is an obligation to depose him and replace him with one that does.
