Sorry to disappoint but Islam doesn't permit you to mistreat your wife.

I was actually aware of the responsibility placed on man. There is a famous narration which mentions that the paradise lies under the feet of a mother. Respect for parents in general covers that. The responsibilities placed on the husband are actually reasonable so l didn't mention them here. He has to provide food,clothes and shelter for his wife. So the women doesn't become more masculine as is the case nowadays. I think Islam has the right balance. It doesn't throw away essential human rights but doesn't place women in a place of power above man. The mughal weren't necessarily following Islam all the time. It was a mixture of various cultures. The king Akbar was very tolerant of Hinduism and formed Din e Elahi and the King Aurangzeb was the polar opposite.

A lot of people seem to have the wrong idea about Islam and that it "deprives women of their rights" when it absolutely does the opposite of that. Personally, I'm not a fan of the Mughals - I am a much bigger fan of their predecessors: the Delhi Sultanate. These were my ancestors. They were the only power to defeat the Mongols repeatedly. The only thing I like about the Mughals is that they kept the Persian language as the lingua franca but unfortunately the British had to change it to Hindustani. =(
