What's considered short in the west is average back in their home countries. I'm 5'6 and most asian guys I see are around my height when I'm out in public and wearing shoes that height fraud me to around 5'7. The only asians I see that are taller on average are chinese guys but even then it doesn't feel like by much.
Being 5'6 as an asian isn't nearly as unexpected as me being a 5'6 white guy.
