I have social anxiety. We’re told that social anxiety is a mental malfunction, a “disorder” that needs fixing. But I believe it's not a defect, it’s a sane reaction to how people actually behave.
Why Social Anxiety Makes Perfect Sense:
Strangers make snap judgments about your looks, status, intelligence, and worth within seconds of seeing you. If you’re nervous around people, it’s because they really are evaluating you.
The more “developed” a country is, the more fake, transactional, and hostile social interactions become. In tribal/village life, people needed each other. Now you’re one awkward moment away from being screenshotted and mocked online. Result: hyper-awareness in social settings isn’t irrational, it’s adaptive.
Normies: “Just be yourself! No one’s judging!" Also normies: [Records your stumble in public, posts it to TikTok with clown emojis]. The gaslighting is insane. You’re not paranoid, people are that cruel.
Low Status = High Risk
If you’re unattractive, poor, or socially unskilled, every interaction carries higher stakes. One wrong move, and you’re labeled a “creep” or “weirdo.” Meanwhile, attractive people can say/do whatever they want. Anxiety isn’t distributed equally, it’s a privilege tax.
The Irony of ‘First World’ Social Hell:
Wealth ≠ Civility. In fact, richer societies have more loneliness, narcissism, and social stratification.
Technology = Permanent records. Every awkward moment can now be digitally preserved and weaponized.
Therapy Gaslighting: They pathologize your fear of judgment while ignoring that judgment is REAL and OFTEN devastating.
Why ‘Exposure Therapy’ Feels Like Bullshit:
Forcing yourself into social situations doesn’t change how people treat you, it just desensitizes you to pain. It’s like telling someone with a fear of snakes to hug a cobra and hoping it won’t bite.
Conclusion:
Social anxiety isn’t a brain defect, it’s a correct assessment of risk.
Your brain isn’t broken. You’re just paying attention.

- If you’re low-status, people will mistreat you.
- If you’re unattractive, your mistakes will be magnified.
- If you’re introverted, the world will punish you for it.
