Im a wageslaver in a stupid dead end job and a oled monitor is half my paycheck basically. I play soulslikes to cope so i like to feel captured by the image, but i was initially considering a decent IPS panel. Samsung has Odissey G5 series, but it has only 8 dimming zones. They say it’s still good tho. Otherwise there’s the G6 Oled but the decay goes stronger on this one, especially by being QD-Oled.

Im a console player, and italian so i cannot afford shit, but I don’t play FPS so I’m fine with 120hz VRR, i just need good picture quality. Frame would be QHD 27 inches.

yes if you can afford it

Yes, it’s worth it.

Here is my exact model I bought way back in 2023 if not a few months before.

No, not worth it. Just get a nice LCD monitor with a good refresh rate.

no it's too black. it only looks good in the store.
the outlines and contours are just too thick.

QLED looks better

They get burn in and are really expensive. But they look nice I had a phone with an oled panel before.

That’s the thing, they are nice but u are constantly stressing because it’s always working overtime to achieve that result, it’s organic. I ordered the G5 IPS btw, it is supposed to be even brighter than the oled regardless of the missing contrast, and it’s carefree for my LDAR souls nights.

Worth it is debatable. OLED is still quite expensive and unless you really care about image quality and low input lag for gaming, it's a hard sell.

Burn-in will always be a thing, but it seems mostly fixed beyond early adopters. Tests have shown you almost purposely need to fuck up your panel to get any real degradation within a few years.

I do care about image quality a lot, more than anything. So oled would be a trivial choice but i cannot afford replacing it in the first place and i want to have a monitor that keeps the same properties even after long gaming nights. If i do 10hrs day of elden ring I don’t wanna worry about damaging the panel at full brightness.

I'm completely unable to fathom why people want their monitor to be as black as possible.
In a dark scene in a movie or game you cannot see absolutely anything in that dark monitor. Why on earth do people want to NOT be able to see things on their monitor is beyond me.

Many many times I have had to increase brightness or gamma in a monitor to be able to see a dark movie or game, but never have I wished "oh boy it would have been so awesome if half of the screen was pitch black and I had no idea what is going on"

It’s not “I don’t wann see anything”, but the contrast u achieve. That means u can spot the smallest light changes. Oled cannot get as bright tho so HDR still falls behind, the real tech is Microled but you would have to be a billionaire to afford it and u wouldn’t be talking here lmao.

Curious if anyone has used mini led, apparently no burn in but looks better than IPS? It's basically half the cost of OLED.

Always a catch. Damnit. Well I won't be building a pc for at least two years so hopefully the monitor situation keeps improoving.

Mini LED are VA or IPS panels, the difference is the backlight is more precise. Cheap ones are likely QLED VA panels which come with its weaknesses... bad response times, smearing issues, but they have great brightness. Personally, VA are my least favorite monitors. They are shit for gaming.

OLED screens bring back the motion smoothness aka faster time response that CRTs had so it's the superior choice over LCD. Real questions is if we'll ever have Microleds in the near future or even thin CRTs in our lifetime

I just eventually want something around 27" that won't burn in, isn't ten billion dollars, and isn't dogshit for PC gaming.

Imagine playing GTA VI on a microled, there’s some trustfoundmaxxed Chad rn probably already preparing for it… for the sub3 probably around 2038

YES i am a proud owner of C3 LG 120HZ EVO 42 INCH OLED TV for my pc setup.
