Is most food bank food expired?

I’ve never been to one so I wouldn’t know. I’ve gotten a few hand outs from a program before but most of it was expired.

But back in middle school I got food aid for a brief period of time and that stuff wasn’t expired. Is it certain food banks that should be avoided?
