I live the same exact life as you (live in a rural area, work in a city ~45 minutes away) and have the same exact impressions as you. I feel my anxiety levels spike every morning when I enter the metro area and traffic starts to increase. Driving into the city is a nightmare and the commute home is even worse. Walking around the city before work and on lunch breaks is taking your life into your own hands as reckless drivers will run stop signs, run red lights, and turn in front of pedestrians crossing at legal crosswalks.
