Prostitution can be bought not genuine sexual attraction. I see sex/intimacy as the major driver in life and if you try to put other achievements in place of it you may have serious problems in late stages of life. Imagine being an all alone successful old scientist that is no longer being talked about and waiting to die at his home alone wihout a family, wife, children or maybe some daycare home if you are sick. Sure that writing a book, developing a career etc. would give an ego boost and happiness when you are young but I don't believe those would satisfy you forever if there is no intimacy.
