I'm not sure it's possible. I'm pretty sure that, even though other factors can trigger it, depression in males or females always occurs on a background of romantic failure or insecurity.

That would make sense somewhat since the drive to mingle genes with someone compatible is the strongest drive we have after survival, and frustration of this drive is bound to create some damage.

I have always been fascinated by the frequency at which depictions of mental illness in media or psych literature are completely at odds with reality. Actual mental illness is extremely simple and extremely sad. It's always about some kind of objective failure, frustration or inferiority. Quite simply put, in real life, your ordinary depressed patient is a sad guy, under both definitions of the term, not a Wall Street alpha douchebag with nightmares and neuroses about his childhood. It never involves convoluted theories about Oedipian complex or the twisted piles of rubbish Lacan used to spit out. Quite simply put, most depressed male patients are merely virgin losers, and they're depressed because of that and nothing else.
