I'm talking about game addiction, is it a real thing? I mean it is a thing for normies, but for us?

used to play runescape 16 hours a day everyday so yeah probably

I mean yeah if you have nothing to replace it or nothing other than vidya to cope with then you'll definitely get addicted to it, if you got a gf you'd stop play vidya all day

video games aren't that addicting to me anymore, i can stop playing any game for 1 month just fine. i used to skip school as a kid to play games though.

for some there's literally nothing they can do becayse of looks, IQ

"Addiction" is a word that has been abused as much as "mental illness". People use it to make excuses for vices they engage in, or normal things they overindulge in. They try to shift the blame of their poor life choices away from themselves and onto an external factor they claim not to have any control over. This novel idea of all kinds of behaviors being addictive and dopamine being bad for you appears to be rooted in a decadent obsession with constantly being "productive" (by some arbitrary metric), and that time spend in unproductive ways is time wasted and should make you feel bad. It's neo-puritan thinking and actually harms you by inducing shame and regret, instead of inspiring you to try new things, which you might find to be more exciting than staring at a screen all day.

Go look at nofappers. Instead of obsessing with porn and fapping they now obsess with not fapping, counting the days they didn't touch their peepee and refrained from looking at naked Homo sapiens. Then, when they inevitably "relapse", they publically humiliate themselves by posting about it. Is that healthy? Is it productive in any way? I don't fucking think so.

When one is unable to achieve their real goals, it is easy to get caught up in exerting yourself in a fake world where you at least see results. It is not the game's fault that you are addicted, it is the fault of life circumstances.

I don't deny what you say but from personal experience, after 100+ days of NoPorn the urge to journal dropped off.

A programmer working at a UK online betting company told me that they consult with psychiatrists to make the site more addictive.

To test the changes to the site the company pay customers to keep a diary about their use of the website.

The programmer had access to the diaries and it had entries like "no Christmas for kids again, spent up on new slots" and the company would take this as a successful website change.

He told me this, I didn't actually see the diaries myself but the way he spoke it sounded true. He felt bad about it and left.

There is an entire science dedicated to this area. I remember an internal slide presentation being leaked some years ago detailing a company's roadmap for exploiting their user's psychology in game design. If I weren't so disgusted by the lengths they are willing to go, I might call it evil genius. I often mention how gaming started to feel different somewhere around 2010 and I truly believe this coincides with the industry beginning to fine tune their work with the aid of psychologists.

Yes but only if you play more than half a day everyday
also i play maybe 1 hour of video games daily (not everyday tho) so chinese gevernment can be proud of me :feelsmage:
