Latino isn't really a race. More of a cultural amalgamation made up of different races who were brought to Latin America.

And Latinos come with different admixtures, and this affects your status in Latin America because of the colonial caste system. There are Latinos who are genuinely white (remember that Spaniards and Portuguese are Europeans, and after the colonial period many people from other parts of Europe immigrated to countries like Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, such as Germans, Italians and Slavs). Though most are mixed mestizos and mulattoes (and admixture also depends on the country, some have more African blood some have more native). And they're are a few Latinos that are mostly or purely African or native/Amerindian.

It's like being Arab, it's not all same race but sometimes different people who all share a common language and culture across a continuous region.
