I'm asking because I want to make and distribute a translation of it into Esperanto, and I'm curious to see if Elliot Rodger's Manifesto "My Twisted World" is copyrighted (technically if you publish something without a notice or registering it to the government, it's still grants automatic copyright to the author even if it may not be protected or enforced). But considering that he's dead and the acts that he committed, can I still produce and distribute my translation of his texts?

There's no copy right on it since it's not officially owned by anyone. There's no registery on it. So no one can claim copy right

Not unless they file a claim. Which again, you can check copy right registery online. No one has filed a claim

You'll get burned out after a while, but by taking breaks here and there it's fine. I'm already working on a translation of the Unabomber's manifesto.

I would only use Google Translate to back-translate my own translation to see if the meaning matches up to the original text.
