My limited impression of the state is that it is an aggregate of a lot of distinct social microcosms. It seems to me that attempts to totalize it as "SJW/Chad/immigrant" wasteland are misguided.
I am almost confident, though, that you'll want to avoid the major metropolitan areas/coasts. The San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles truly seem as though they'd be ridden with "I deserve the best" hypergamy, given the appalingly skewed M:F ratio and the prevailing culture, which is simultaneously status-obsessed and sententious.
But it's a huge place with a lot of different social climates. For any Calcels extensively familiar with the state, I'd love to get individual takes on:
-LA
-Bay Area
-Holy City of Santa Barbara
-Inland Empire
-San Diego
-The hot, polluted part of the Central Valley: Bakersfield/ Modesto/ Fresno/ Stockton, etc.
-Sacramento
-Sonoma/Napa Bay Area exurbs
-The "State of Jefferson" Northern wilds/Redding/Oroville, etc.
