It happens to chads sometimes. There's a known mental illness called facial blindess, where your brain isn't able to process or remember human faces, it's not surprising that something like body dysmorphia can exist.

Yes, though body dysmorphia is a bit different from what people think. You don't literally see yourself as fat, but rather your body is processing your body image differently, if that makes sense.

Sometimes I think some people with it who are attractive LARP to themselves because they have 1 flaw that has little effect on their SMV (such as a barely noticeable mole), and I'd imagine they do it because of some psychological probem (e.g. "wanting" to be rejected, "wanting" to not be in relationship because of past trauma etc), so they super-focus on that 1 flaw.
But what is outrageous is to say that somebody who is ugly has body dysmorphia. No.

While I'm not going to distrust the fact that body dysmorphia exists, I think it's numbers are exaggerated.
They classify body dysmorphia into two subtypes: delusional and exaggerated (although they don't use those terms). Delusional is imagining a disfigurement or abnormality where none exists and exaggerated is putting more importance or assigning more value to a problem which really isn't that big of a deal. I find flaw in that though. Sure, some people do over-exaggerate there problems. But I'm sure in many cases it's just other people downplaying the importance of the issue. It's easy enough to say 'that's not a big deal' when you are not the one dealing with the problem.
Of course people are going to over-estimate the issues of their body or face, we are talking about your genetics, your 'worth' to the species, your reproductive success and how other people view and treat you. You have to be straight up delusional to deny the importance of looking good.
