As for ancestry, every European is a descendant of Charlemagne, and most likely descendants of other local kings and nobility but of course through illegitimate lines mostly. It's a meaningless term nowadays unless you live in Europe and your family still holds a state and you hold the noble surname.

Another had some huge manor in England and entertained the queen as a houseguest. A few were knights and members of parliament.
