Online gaming that is

Is that your home wifi?

More than enough. More important is quality of your connection, stability, lack of packet loss etc
You can have one of the fastest internet connection, but if you have packet loss you're screwed in online games like shooters.

Too slow. I have 1.5 Gbps with ethernet connection. I would rope if I only had 40 Mbps.

if you stick with servers for your own region sure.

Moggs me. Cucked at 300 Mbps :cryfeels::cryfeels:

What is that supposed to mean
if EU play on EU servers, if American play on American servers. i play a lot of fighting games many dont have regional matchmaking, Brazilian kens dont care if you got 1TB internet speed, there will still be lag.

These servers are hosted by the game companies?

Most of the time companies will host their own servers out of necessity to make the game work. is mostly old games that have fan hosted server due to how older multiplayer works.

nobody needs more than 500Mbit

I don't think most game companies have servers in my country

they dont do country by country basis, they go by continent. EU, America, Asia, etc. Beyond that they might make a East-West Split for America and EU servers. Some Asian servers get made just for single countries like China

20 Mbps is enough for me

It's enough to play in general. My free 25 Mbps is enough. But, if you're competitive, you'll want more.

If you are playing multiplayer then aren't you "competitive" by default?

Depends on the game and motivation. If you need precise inputs, then every bit and ping ms counts.

You don't have to worry about it unless you're planning on playing multiplayer games

....I mean what else would I want to be online for

If memory serves me right, you mentioned getting a laptop solely for a handful of storymode games but I might be mistaken

How do I reduce packet loss? I get constant packet loss when I play warzone even with wired LAN connection to my PC.

If your isp is crappy you can't. Also avoid WiFi.

Yes. I probably won't even play multiplayer. I would still need a connection to download stuff

40 mbps will more than suffice for that

I played call of duty earlier and every match was packet loss I was so pissed.

I have the cheapest internet ISP in my city only $30 a month for 30 mbps download.

There's a way to test your internet connection, packet loss, ping etc

Not really there are casual mp games with human+bots like Enlisted or coop gaymes

It's funny to think you're in a third world country and your internet is no exaggeration 20 times faster than mine in Goymerica.

Internet is dirt cheap in India, cheapest in the world

I've done online gaming on 33.3 kbps.

you need a stable connection, not a fast connection. so long as you've got less than 100 ping to a server, and it's stable you're fine

I'm the example. Fast speed but can't play online games. I just cannot.

Yes unless you plan on playing in tournaments/high level scrims or during early season rank race (not as much). A stable good ping and FPS matters more than your skills at that level. The last thing you want is disconnections/ frame stutters. These losses are so much more infuriating than simply being outskilled.
