The old 1970's era missiles they sort of went up in a super large arc and came down somewhere in the general area of the targets. If you launch a bunch of those missiles of varying size/range at a place it has a military value, like against troop formations, and a terror value, but also basically all of the missiles miss. Precision guided missiles are the next generation of technology. Its just deadly like say Israelis were having a soccer game, and a bunch of missiles slammed into the stadium. Any sort of gatherings of people is dangerous, like weddings, or government officials meeting.
So a missile attack goes from killing like 2 people with the old unguided rockets. To kills like 200 people with the guided rockets. Imagine universities the various gatherings they have or just large classrooms full of people. You can also combine large numbers of old unguided missiles coming in, with a few guided missiles, to make intercepting them more difficult.
Thats why I am thinking this is going to be a war of attrition, where the USA and France and other Western nations send troops in, to carve out a safety zone around Israel. And to fight for that and hold it, it will be this long bloody war. And a war of attrition.
