Rule of thumb is anything with forced KYC = spyware. In this case Jewstagram always asks for a phone number when you sign up.

Not just that, any (((Facebook))) app WILL upload your contact list to their servers so they know who exactly you are, so a burner SIM is useless. The idea is they will match your contacts to known phone numbers in their system and if there's a match, that means you and that person probably know each other.

That other person may not have the best OPSEC, and when matched up to several other contacts, (((Zuckerberg))) will have a very good idea of who exactly you are. The contact matching will not end at 1 layer only either. Your contact's contact's will be compared against as well for an even bigger accuracy.

That last bit is actually stated in their TOS: they outright say that your contacts WILL be uploaded, and there's nothing you can do about it else the app won't work.

They have more ways of spying but that's just what I can think off for now

Even if you don't have contacts on your phone, other people might have your number saved (parents, etc) and they'll take your number (which they got from KYC when you signed up) and compare it to other people's contacts.
