Jeremy McBride, of Indianapolis, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to attempted murder and feticide, FOX 59 Indianapolis reported.
McBride shot his estranged wife in the 700 block of East Pleasant Run Parkway around 6 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2025, after learning she was cheating on him, according to Indianapolis police investigators.
Police found Netherland, 25, wounded and in the home's bathroom. She was rushed to the hospital and was stabilized by paramedics, but doctors could not save the child.
Around the time of the shooting, a friend of Netherland's arrived at their home to do laundry and walked inside, according McBride's criminal complaint. She saw McBride standing over Netherland and without a word, he left through the front door, investigators said in the complaint.
The friend called police and said she believed McBride shot Netherland. Officers tracked him down using his vehicle license plate readers and pulled him over.
McBride got out of his car without putting it in park, letting it roll away and strike a poll. He reportedly told an officer he was on his way to turn himself in and asked "is she OK?"
He also told police that he had a gun in the car. Police recovered the gun and notes McBride wrote to Netherland.
"McBride wrote to (Netherland) of his frustrations with her infidelity, his frustrations with their failed relationship, his anger & insecurities which led him to mistreat others, his belief that he has not 'molded' himself into an individual (she) would want to have children with, and that he had wanted children with her," investigators wrote in the complaint.
He went on to tell police that he was upset that "she had gotten pregnant by another man" while the two were still married, although they had separated in September 2024.
"Maybe she will come back one day, but not for me," McBride allegedly wrote in the letters. "But in many ways, I killed her."
Justified. The estranged couple was shopping at Goodwill the day of the shooting. After returning to Netherland's home, she entered the bathroom. Sitting in bed, McBride allegedly said that shooting her "made sense in that moment."
He shot her five times in the back, and she never saw him shoot, McBride told police.
