Canonically most relationships start on Tinder and other dating apps now (I am skeptical of this statistic but Jews wrote multiple studies affirming it so we will argue on this basis) and it is obvious to anyone who understands the basic layout of Tinder that it is just window shopping based on looks. To avoid coming to the obvious logical conclusion that your dating prospects are mostly determined by looks Redditors developed an entire mythology around how there is a secret "code" to "crack" on Tinder that is always just barely out of reach.
A few years ago if a male online correctly observed that he gets no matches on Tinder because the women on there aren't attracted to him he would receive a deluge of replies telling him to put a photo with a dog on his profile or put 5 solo pics accompanied by 1 friend group pic or add a quirky Harry Potter reference to his bio or show himself hiking or juggling or riding a unicycle or some other bullshit shit that would somehow supernaturally make women match with him and want to fuck him. The whole idea is so retarded and obviously contrary to the basic premise of dating apps that I have to imagine the entire thing was an astroturfed marketing campaign by the company. Now that these men have had a few years to try and fail at tricking women into matching with them via ridiculous bullshit like that they have inevitably come to grips with this fact and the knee-jerk response has shifted to "Dating apps suck, go meet women in real life". That slogan is also exactly what you will hear discussing dating apps with anyone in real life in the current epoch. Even the most naive idealists on subreddits like r/tinder can only reminisce about an imagined "golden age" of Tinder where women really did read and care about your Harry Potter house in your bio
