she doesn't have to hit you to be bad, there's plenty of other ways to hurt a child, and she probably destroyed your confidence or good qualities like mine did.
There was a guy at work who was like a 1:1 copy of me, only prettier (almost 10/10) and with a more supportive NORMAL mom. And look at him - working at a higher position than mine was despite the fact that he's one year younger than me.
